“We didn’t talk about anything heavy or light. We were just there together. And that was enough” – Chbosky

My friend Damon invited me to a private prescreening of ‘the perks of being a wallflower’ and Q&A with Stephen Chbosky, author of NY Times Bestseller and director of the film adaptation. Stephen shared fascinating background details on the inspiration for his book, why he waited on doing the film adaptation, the cast and song selection/rights, and answered everyone’s questions. Afterward, he signed autographed copies of mini versions of the movie poster. We spoke one-on-one for a few minutes about the book and music. Stephen was very cool and genuine. The film didn’t arrive as scheduled, but they gave us movie passes for an upcoming screening.

A few weeks later when we got to see the movie it was fun to apply the background details that Stephen had shared. The film was surprisingly true to the book, which is a rarity.
