I had a CD autographed by a band recently for my cousin and the process bummed me out. I needed the CD right away and I had a difficult time finding it in stores in my area. I drove around to several retailers that now only carry CDs of the top 20 current bands/artists. Luckily, I found a copy of the CD at my last stop, Best Buy. I have been acquiring autographed CDs and books for myself and others for decades. I have met many famous people and the surge of excitement I feel getting an artist’s or author’s signature never gets old, but with new forms of technology like iTunes and Kindle rapidly increasing it made me think…will getting autographs soon be a thing of the past? As less traditional forms of music and books are made available and more are produced as files for use on digital devices what will be left to have signed?
